Deck research: Yubel and its evolution part 2

Last week I discussed Yubel and its two forms, top tier decks that are used and strategies that will help Yubel become potential in tournaments. In this blog, I'll cover cards that are good and bad for Yubel decks. When using a Yubel deck, you must realize that Yubel's first and second form can not attack. You want to use cards not only to destroy Yubel purposely, but to also make your opponent attack Yubel. If your opponent is just going to sit around and not wait, you'll lose duels this way. Yubel has support cards. Here are a list of cards that can help Yubel put your opponent against the walls.

Crush card virus

Shift

Staunch defender

Nightmare archfiends

All out attacks

Call of the earthbound

Battle Mania

After Genocide(After the struggle)

Here are cards you do not want to use due to "missing the timing"

Thunder crash

Generation shift

Hate buster

Caius the shadow monarch(good and bad)

Cyber Jar

If I missed any other cards, I'm sorry. These are what I thought of. Lets go over each card.

1. Crush card virus:
Tribute 1 dark monster with 1000 or less ATK. Check all monsters your opponent controls, your opponent's hand and cards they draw (until the end of your opponent's 3rd turn after this card's activation) and destroy all monsters with 1500 or more ATK.

This card says enough for Yubel and all its forms. If they take out Yubel, use this card to make the plain field even.

2. Shift:
You can activate this card when your opponent designates 1 monster on your side of the field as the target of a magic, trap or battle attack. Change the target to a different monster on your side of the field.

If you have a monster on the field and Yubel as well, use this card to protect your monster and have them attack Yubel so your opponent can receive damage.

3. Staunch Defender:
You can only activate this card when your opponent declares an attack. Select 1 face-up monster on your side of the field. During the turn this card is activated, your opponent can only attack the monster you selected. Your opponent must attack the selected monster with all face-up monsters on his/her side of the field.

Just have a Yubel and another monster and select Yubel as the attack target. In addition, all your opponents monsters must attack. I

4. Nightmare archfiends:
Tribute one monster. Special summon 3 "nightmare archfiend tokens(Fiend-type/DARK level 6/ATK 2000/DEF2000) to your opponent's side of the field in attack position. When a nightmare archfiend token is destroyed, its controller takes 800 damage.

This card is the perfect setup for an OTK with Yubel. Using the support cards in the list, you should not have a problem using this OTK at all. Still, you have to make sure you have the setup and use it at the right moment too.

5. All Out Attacks:
All monsters that are special summoned are changed to face-up attack position and must attack if able, during the turn they are special summoned.

This card is good as a side deck in my opinion. You could use this in your main deck and combo this with Nightmare Archfiends but that's just not good enough. This stops Blackwings, and Lightsworns.

6. Call of the earthbound:
Activate on when an opponent's monster declares an attack. You select the target of the attack.

Since your opponent is not going to attack Yubel, they will go after other monsters you control. Bait your monster and surprise them with this card.

7. Battle Mania:
Activate during your opponent's standby phase. All face-up monsters your opponent controls are changed to attack position and cannot change their battle positions this turn. All monsters your opponent currently controls must attack this turn if able.

Assuming you have limit reverse face down, Yubel in the graveyard and this card face down, you want to activate battle mania and chain limit reverse to get Yubel from your graveyard so that way you'll be able to pull off the combo. You can combo this with nightmare archfiends to make them attack you and they take 6000 damage. If you have Yubel-the ultimate nightmare, it will be an OTK since the tokens will be destroyed and your opponent will take 800 damage for each one destroyed.

8. After Genocide(After the struggle):
This card can only be activated during your main phase 1. All monsters on both sides of the field that have been involved in damage calculation are destroyed during the end step of the turn.

Since Yubel takes no battle damage, you can use this card to attack any monster however Yubel's first and second form will not make your opponent take damage because they did not attack but you can get Yubel's second form once its destroyed unless there are cards that will make you "miss the timing."

Now we cover cards you do not use in Yubel

1. Thunder crash:
Destroy all monsters on your side of the field. Inflict damage to your opponent's life points equal to the number of monsters destroyed x300 points.

I see this card in an Ojama deck personally. You destroy Yubel but you miss the timing to get its second form out since you have to resolve the damage from thunder crash.

2. Generation shift:
Destroy one face-up monster on your side of the field. Add one card from your deck to your hand with the same name as the destroyed card.

I see this as a combo for sacred phoenix of nephyths since if its destroyed by a card effect it will return during your standby phase. This does NOT benefit Yubel at all.

3. Hate buster:
Activate on when a face-up fiend-type monster you control is selected as an attack target. Destroy the attacking monster and the attack target monster and inflict damage to your opponent equal to the original attack of the attacking monster.

You have to have a fiend-type monster to use this card. Yubel is focused on being destroyed. This card would miss the timing because you have to resolve the damage being dealt to your opponent.

4. Caius the shadow monarch
When this card is tribute summoned, remove from play one card on the field. If it was a dark monster card, inflict 1000 damage to your opponents life points.

This card is good and bad. It can take a back row or a monster on either side of the field. It works great in Macro decks with D.D survivor and D.D scout plane. If your aiming to inflict damage with Yubel, you can remove Yubel and your opponent will receive the damage but you miss the timing for Yubel's second form. Caius is good in Monarchs, Macro, and Dark Armed builds.

5. Cyber Jar(how I miss you)
Flip: Destroy all monsters on the field. Both players pick up five cards from the top of their decks and special summon all level 4 or lower monsters among them on the field in face-up attack position or face-down defense position. The rest of the cards picked up are added to their respective hands.

Cyber Jar is a great card however for Yubel, its not. Cyber Jar is great for swarming decks like Six samurai, Lightsworn, Blackwings, and various other decks that swarm. Yubel's first and second for will miss the timing.

There you have it. As I mentioned, if there are some cards that I missed out on, I'm sorry. I would post a deck for Yubel but I'm currently testing it out right now. maybe I'll post one in my future blogs. I hope this information was helpful for Yubel users like myself. Thank you for reading and keep practicing and have fun.
